NFL News: On The Clock: Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars paid their franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence to a long-term deal before the season started. They brought in Gabe Davis from Buffalo. They already had Evan Engram. I say this to say I expected this passing game to be a lot better than it was this season. They have the 28th-ranked total offense and the passing game was ranked 24th. A lot of this was due to a lack of time and an offensive line. Trevor won a playoff game back in 2022. I was really looking forward to him developing more under Doug Pederson. It just has come with a gradual increase. Left tackle Cam Robinson was traded at the deadline to the Minnesota Vikings. The running game for the Jaguars was ranked 26th. So needless to say this team with an offensive head coach is struggling on the offensive side of the ball.

Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen is leading the defense in sacks with 8 and 7.5 currently. Despite their dominance, the Jaguars are last in total defense giving up almost 400 yards a game. They have the second-worst passing defense slightly above Baltimore’s currently. They also have the 24th-ranked rushing defense. They only have 5 interceptions on the season. Their top corner Tyson Campbell has struggled to stay on the field only playing 8 games this season. This linebacking corps isn’t talked about enough but Devin Lloyd, Ventrell Miller, and Foyesade Oluokun are amongst the league best group. They have a total of 246 tackles. So not all is bad on this defense, but they can definitely add to this team as a unit.

Doug Pederson has been struggling to get this team back to the playoffs since winning a wildcard round game against the Chargers. I expect to see a change in the head coach after the season. Lions OC Ben Johnson is at the head of the class when it comes to coaches opening and having his pick of the litter. The offensive coordinator for Baltimore, Todd Monken, would be an attractive target. Eagles’ OC Kellen Moore could also be a candidate for head coach for them to improve the potency of this offense because I believe they have talent at key positions

What Do They Need?

Tyson Campbell is coming off an injury and Ronald Darby being over 30 they could look to add to this secondary. If they want to add another corner opposite Ty Campbell, Michigan’s Will Johnson could come off the board here or Notre Dame’s Benjamin Morrison.

They can also look to add to their secondary at safety in the second round, but I would look to add an interior offensive line. Tyler Booker, Alabama’s left guard, could be the pick in the second. Also, they could look to see if Ohio State’s Donavin Jackson is still available. Either of these two players would improve this offensive line for Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars offense.

Like I stated at some point in this draft I know the Jaguars would look to add a wide receiver and safety in this April’s draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a young QB that they believe is the one that can turn this team around. They will (probably) look to get him the coach that can help him do that and these draft picks are essential to fix the rest of the team around him.
